Blog

Many localities have been making efforts to build growing area codes for agricultural products. This not only helps improve the quality of local agricultural products, but also builds brands for specialty products, thereby increasing the value of products, bringing Vietnamese agricultural products to reach further not only domestically but also in the world market.

BlogTracing the origin of goods contributes to increasing the value of products, meeting the increasing demands of consumers.

Promoting the development of growing area codes

Dong Thap province has been granted codes by the Plant Protection Department for 1,270 growing areas with an area of over 114 thousand hectares; of which, fruit trees are over 17 thousand hectares; vegetables are 2 thousand hectares; trees rice over 94 thousand hectares. Most of the area codes are for domestic market and export to China, Australia, USA, New Zealand, Korea, Japan, EU, Russia, Singapore, Malaysia, UAE.

Currently, Dong Thap has more than 94,000 hectares of rice production with area codes, most of which use high quality rice varieties and focus on some main groups of varieties with high yield such as Dai Thom 8, OM 18, OM 5451, OM 4900, Nang Hoa Chin, and Long An IR 46-25 sticky rice. The proportion of high-quality varieties accounts for more than 60%.

In rice production areas in Dong Thap that are granted growing area codes, most farmers apply technical measures such as sparse sowing, applying IPM in pest management... to reduce rice production costs, increase profits and improve rice quality.

According to Mr. Hoang Van Hung (Tan Kieu commune, Thap Muoi district), in the past, due to small-scale production, farmers encountered many difficulties from input to output. Since having a growing area code and linking with Vietnam Rice Company Limited to produce Dai Thom 8 rice variety, the company has supported farmers with seeds and clean production techniques. Since then, each crop, the yield has increased significantly, estimated to increase by an average of over 7 tons/ha.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Dong Thap province has had many solutions and actions to promote the expansion of production areas with planting area codes, creating conditions for farmers to increase productivity, this is also the solution to the problem of increasing income for farmers.

Recently, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dong Thap province has coordinated with Rynan Company to train and guide localities to register lotus growing area codes associated with data entry via the website vdapes.com or the app Accompanying Rynan associated with entering production diaries to facilitate and ease the implementation of traceability when companies and businesses purchase and distribute products to the market. The province uses the system to enter information to create QR codes to trace the origin of lotus products into the product traceability management system.

These moves have helped local products reach the international market. Accordingly, 15 tons of lotus roots from Thap Muoi district have recently entered the Japanese market. Japan is a demanding market, so products must have a clear origin, clear origin, and meet strict standards to be able to be exported to this market.

Similarly, many localities are also promoting the development of growing area codes for key products. Thanks to this effort, the quality of agricultural products has been improved, the value of products has increased, contributing to promoting the development of the agricultural export industry.

In Gia Lai province, for many years, agricultural product exports have played an important role in the province's economic structure with continuous annual growth in turnover. In the first 6 months of 2024 alone, Gia Lai province recorded impressive export turnover with an estimated figure of up to 525 million USD. This growth is partly supported by free trade agreements such as the EVFTA and RCEP, which help expand the market for businesses. And the important thing is the role of traceability, building growing area codes for specialty crop areas, thereby increasing the value of local agricultural products.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Gia Lai province, key products such as coffee, pepper, durian, passion fruit, bananas... have all been granted quality codes in the international market.

Information from the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection of Gia Lai province said that the whole province currently has 227 growing area codes with a total area of over 9,600 hectares and 38 agricultural product packaging facilities with a total packaging capacity of about 1,500 - 1,700 tons of fresh fruit/day. Currently, the province's agricultural products are exported to China, New Zealand, the United States...

Meeting the increasing demands of the market

Experts say that the establishment of growing area codes brings many practical benefits to the agricultural sector in localities. Specifically, growing area codes help trace the origin, ensure product quality, thereby enhancing the reputation of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market. Through growing area codes, consumers can be assured of the origin and quality of products, promote consumption and increase export value.

In addition, growing area codes also contribute to raising people's awareness of safe and environmentally friendly agricultural production. Local households are guided to apply scientific farming processes, use fertilizers and pesticides reasonably to ensure products meet international standards. From there, the value of agricultural products increases, bringing more sustainable profits to people

Director of the Trade Promotion Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade) According to Vu Ba Phu, in the context of a market economy, traceability contributes to creating a foundation for the production and circulation of goods in the digital economy, helping enterprises (DN) meet international and importing country regulations, thereby helping to increase productivity, product quality and consumption markets for enterprises.

“Tracing the origin of products in international business activities is increasingly important. In many major export markets of Vietnam such as the EU, the US, Japan, and South Korea, traceability has become an unwritten rule for imported goods and has become a habit of consumers” - Mr. Phu emphasized.

The German Development Cooperation Organization in Vietnam (GIZ) stated that, in fact, traceability ensures that the production process and products are made public, helping customers and the community to accurately assess the production of enterprises and ensure the responsibility of enterprises towards the environment and society, thereby enhancing the value of products, contributing to building the image and brand of products originating from Vietnam.
